The NJSTA Fellows Program was inaugurated as an expression of esteem to those officers and members who give to the association of their time and talent to a degree not normally expected of them. Fellows are honored at our annual spring membership meeting. [Recipients]
The NJSTA Atkins Award was named for Pauline McDowell Atkins who became the first woman president of NJSTA in 1924 and who was leader in the development of science education in NJ. The Award, established in 1948, recognizes "outstanding cooperation with and service to the science teachers of the state of NJ". Over the years that the award has been presented, representatives of many major New Jersey companies have received the award. [Recipients]
John Petix, a former NJSTA president, fellow and Citation Scroll recipient, was an ardent supporter of NJSTA well after his presidental term was finished. Edythe, his wife and a math department chair, provided much behind the scenes support for John, hence the title Petix Supporter of Science Award. The NJSTA Petix Award shall be awarded to non-members of NJSTA for extraordinary support and contribution to NJSTA. [Recipients]
Maitland P. Simmons was president of NJSTA from 1954-1955. His wife, Antoinette, left a bequest to NJSTA for scholarships in her husband's name. The scholarships shall be designated "The Maitland P. Simmons Memorial Award." [Initiatives]
The Doris White Memorial Scholarship is awarded to students who are currently enrolled in a Teacher Education Program at a New Jersey institution of higher education. The award is in honor of Dr. Doris Gnauck White, in tribute for her unfailing enthusiasm for and devotion to both scientific research and the professional development of teachers. By registering for an NJSTA event, you grant permission to NJSTA to take and use your photo in marketing and promotion pieces for an indefinite period of time. Marketing and promotional pieces include, but are not limited to, printed brochures, reports, postcards, flyers and materials, as well as online uses such as postings on the NJSTA website, online newsletters and email blasts. NJSTA shall own all rights, including copyrights, in and to the photos.
