Science Coaches is a joint ACS and AACT educational outreach initiative dedicated to enhancing science skills in students across the United States. The program partners coaches (volunteer chemists) with AACT teacher members in elementary, middle, and high schools. Teachers accepted into the program will have the opportunity to form a valuable relationship with a coach who volunteers face-to-face or through a private, digital forum.
Come learn about One-on-One and Teams partnerships and find out which program will benefit you and your students the most. One lucky attendee will receive a copy of “Molecules: The Elements and the Architecture of Everything” by Theodore Gray.

Climate change is a major threat to our planet. Educators and their students are invited to collaborate with Rutgers University scientists to explore climate change data and how it can be used to make environmental decisions. Students will present their ideas at the Climate Change Summit 2019 at Rutgers University. This opportunity is for Grades 8-12, and there are only 15 spots available in the program.

NJ teacher Beth Topinka's students created a STEM resource for teachers to spark problem-solving and inspire students to take action in their your own communities.
This year our Phearless Phragmites Phighters team broadened our definition of community to include our entire state of New Jersey. We want New Jersey students to become aware of invasive Phragmites around their towns, and to become motivated to tackle this problem. A technology-based, digital strategy can reach and inform any young person with internet access, so we created an eBook and Virtual Reality experience. To reach the most students, the eBook and Virtual Reality field trip are included in our online teacher kit, PhragKit4Teachers.weebly.com. Most importantly, our kit provides resources to help students throughout New Jersey take action to Phight Phragmites!

NASA's Parker Solar Probe will swoop to within 4 million miles of the sun's surface, facing heat and radiation like no spacecraft before it. Launching in 2018, Parker Solar Probe will provide new data on solar activity and make critical contributions to our ability to forecast major space-weather events that impact life on Earth.

The Department of Biology, Behavioral Neuroscience, and Health Sciences in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Rider University is seeking candidates for a full-time (10 month academic year) non-tenure-track appointment as Lecturer in Biology. The initial appointment will be for three years subject to annual performance evaluation and is renewable based on performance and program need.
Responsibilities of the Lecturer include teaching and service. Teaching responsibilities entail 12 contact hours (4 classes and/or labs) per semester, and will primarily focus on delivery, development and maintenance and academic assessment of our introductory biology curriculum. Service responsibilities primarily focus on student academic advising, but may also include other opportunities within the department, college or university.
Candidates should have Master’s-level or higher degree in a biological science and a strong record in undergraduate education, pedagogy and/or academic assessment.. A PhD or other terminal degree is preferred. Candidates with an interest in STEM pedagogy research are strongly encouraged to apply.

UTeach (UMass Boston) Clinical Assistant Professor / Clinical Instructor
The College of Education and Human Development and the College of Science and Mathematics invite applications for a non-tenure track, 10-month Master Teacher/Clinical Assistant Professor to work with the UMass Boston UTeach Program beginning Spring 2015. This person will work with and support the Project Co-PIs and Co-Directors to develop, maintain, and ensure the sustainability of the program.
The responsibilities include: (1) teaching undergraduate and graduate STEM teacher preparation courses, focusing on fostering a deep understanding of STEM concepts and processes; (2) supervise practica related to field-based teacher development; (3) advise students; (4) write and administer grants; (5) present at local, state, and national conferences; (6) contribute to the University’s urban mission, to university and departmental committees, and to professional associations. Service at the college, university and professional level is expected, including outreach to schools.
This is a non-tenure-track (NTT) faculty appointment consisting of a 9-month instructional and 1-month summer administrative appointment, for a total of 10 months. Appointment is for no more than 3 years. However, reappointment can occur for as long as the appropriate need and resources exist. Reappointment is also dependent upon continual satisfactory job performance. Standard full-time teaching load is 9 teaching credits per semester, for a total of 18 for an academic year. Additional instructional-related duties connected to student mentoring and program development will be assigned in order to provide persons appointed in this title with the appropriate workload.
Candidates must have a Master’s Degree or equivalent experience (Bachelor’s Degree plus 36 credits), preferably in mathematics education, science education, mathematics, or a science discipline. The candidate must be able to demonstrate (1) a minimum of 5 years as a secondary classroom teacher, with a preference for public school experience; (2) interest in participating in a professional preparation program; (3) expertise in appropriate use of instructional technology; (4) regular participation in state, regional, or national professional organizations and activities; and (5) professional scholarship in the form of publications and/or presentations.

Join us in New Brunswick for some very special events and a cool new exhibit.
In Search of Earth’s Secrets aims to increase awareness and excitement about ocean/earth science and careers through activities, exhibits and a 40-foot inflatable ship. This program, which is funded by NSF, is the result of a partnership between the International Ocean Discovery Program, Rutgers University, the New Brunswick Free Public Library, the Girl Scouts of Central and Southern NJ, and 4-H.
There will be series of events held between April 25th and May 21st. Pick up an "In Search of Earth's Secrets" Passport and collect all 8 stamps to win a prize!

The Mars Student Imaging Project (MSIP) is a nationally recognized award winning authentic inquiry-based learning and student-centered education project. Students learn how science works by engaging in science research using data from a NASA spacecraft orbiting Mars. Students understand how science really works by actually being a scientist.
The Mars Student Imaging Project (MSIP) is an immersive and transformational way for students in grades 5 through early college to engage in scientific process and practices through authentic research experiences. MSIP enhances the teaching of traditional courses, such as physical science, Earth science, chemistry, and biology. MSIP also incorporates 21st Century Skills to help students be ready for the STEM workforce.
MSIP can be done through distance learning or as an independent research project. There is no fee to participate in the Mars Student Imaging Project.

How does high school chemistry teacher, Michael Morgan, with a background in chemical physics, suddenly (or maybe not so suddenly) end up teaching marine sciences in his chemistry classes? Learn about the odd path he took to incorporate topics from marine sciences, earth sciences, and even a little bit of biology into his chemistry classes. The webinar will feature the roles of the National Ocean Sciences Bowl (NOSB) and the National Science Bowl (NSB). Surfing, scuba diving, sailboat racing, and an ill placed Olympic dream will all be part of the story.
