New Jersey City University's Department of Elementary and Secondary Education offers a wide variety of teacher preparation programs to meet the needs of our nation's schools. Currently we are seeking candidates in following two categories: (a) To serve as a mentor teacher for our pre-service teachers and (b) Supervisors.
Description of Mentor teacher(s) position:
Mentor teachers (or cooperating teachers) work closely with our secondary pre-service teachers. As a part of teacher certification requirement, pre-service teachers are placed in a science classroom for practicums and internships (currently known as Clinical experience and Clinical practice). Clinical experience students visit twice a week to the secondary classroom, whereas clinical practice students spend entire semester (15 weeks) in a science classroom. We are seeking Earth science mentor teachers to host our pre-service teachers. Mentor teachers receive stipend for hosting the students.
Description of Supervisor position:
Supervisors observing clinical experience students visit them 3 times a semester and receive 1/2 credit compensation for each student. Supervisors observing clinical practice students visit 7 times a semester and receive 1 credit for each student. Supervisors can be any experienced science teachers or district science supervisors who are available during daytime to make school visits.
New Jersey City University is located in Jersey City, New Jersey and most of our candidates are placed in Jersey City, Bayonne, Elizabeth and Union city school districts.
